I’m convinced anyone who actually believes this is just trying to justify their drug habits.
But I swear, people just believe everything they read. Weed could quite easily have killed my whole family. I’ve actually never heard of alcohol killing someone, either - at least, not in the way that this post suggests (you’ll pass out before you can consume enough alcohol to kill yourself).
“Oh, but people drink drive!”
Yeah, people die driving stoned, too. People get hit by cars, stoned. People jump off of buildings, stoned. If you’re going to say alcohol kills people in that way, weed does the exact same thing. You can’t just change the rules for weed because you want it to look better. People die, on weed, in all the same ways that people die on alcohol.
Oh, and, yes, weed does give you psychological disorders. It’s like nobody wants to pay attention to that. My dad has one, my sister has one; both from smoking weed. Two separate psychiatrists have told both of them the same thing, and random kids on the internet certainly have no credibility when theyr otherwise. If you’d like to dispute that I can go fetch their numbers for you. It’s also addictive - more addictive than alcohol, that is. And this is why I won’t touch the shit. While I like the smell, I also really lose respect for people who do it. You aren’t even considering what it’ll do to your family in 50 years if you take it regularly. My dad sure as fuck didn’t think of that.
Take it from someone who’s family has been massively threatened by your beloved weed. It may not have killed anyone in my family, but it sure as fuck did rip our family apart, and it did cop my mother a shitload of physical violence. If you’re going to say weed isn’t bad, you’re dead wrong, and she has the scars to prove it.
^^^
Anyone who believes this IS trying to justify their drug habits. And where do these numbers come from anyway? Caffeine kills 10,000 people every year? Which people? I have never heard this. And how exactly does caffeine kill people? By making them hyperactive so they run around and accidentally run off a cliff and die?
Just gonna put this out there, with the caffeine. Some people do overdose on it, and it can fuck up your heart, giving you a heartattack. In some cases, people who decide to drink more than the recommended dose of caffeine drinks suffer from said heart attacks. As for PURE caffeine, in powder form could also kill you.
Ever felt your heart palpitate after drinking so many cups of coffee? It’s scary.
Agree with all of this.
reblogging for Alanah’s story
Facts that the Image maker might not know about Weed:
- Weed has a higher tar content than tobacco and people who smoke weed are three times more likely to get lung cancer/emphyzema than people who smoke cigarettes. This number is even higher for those that do both, but deaths in this case are usually attributed to smoking cigarettes.
Bullshit. Smoking weed does no long-term lung damage whatsoever. It can, in fact, slow down the growth of lung tumors.
- Weed can lead to psychologic disorders and paranoia, which can lead to people becoming a danger to themselves and others. One of my close friends from highschool ended up being institutionalised for two years because of her weed addiction.
Some Googling found this may have a grain of truth to it, but your friend’s case is probably quite rare. It’s more often used in the treatment of such disorders. I suspect that much like mental disorders “following” an abortion, mental disorders following prolonged cannabis use happened to people who already had mental disorders to begin with.
- The active chemicals present in marijuana are soluable in fat - meaning that weed stays in your system for up to two months after the visible effects have disappeared. A long-time habit coupled with a high-excercise regime gives an interesting effect - the person who smokes weed effectively has their cognitive abilities impaired near-constantly because little bits of THC are always present in their bloodstream when they burn fat. This also means that up to two months after you have used weed, it’ll turn up on a blood-screen/drugs test.
As a smoker, it’s definitely not two months for the blood test. It’s closer to one month, tops. Source on the cognitive damage?
- Weed causes brain damage and nerve damage.
That’s nothing but a big fat lie.
- People who drive drugged are more likely to have an accident than people who drive drunk. (This is a variable figure, and depends on the level of intoxication, but in both cases accidents are more than twice as likely to occur as when people who drive sober.)
Another big fat lie.
- Weed leads to increases of abuse from those who smoke it to their loved ones, part of which stems from the paranoia mentioned above.
I’m sorry, what? What does this even mean? Does this mean you influence your loved ones to abuse it? That your loved ones are more likely to abuse you? That you’re more likely to abuse your loved ones?
- The amount of people who die annually from drug overdoses is comparatively greater than those who die of alcohol poisoning. (In terms of relative population size)
You’re lumping all illicit drugs together, but they’re not all the same. Research found that it would take 800 joints over the course of ten minutes to kill you, and it wouldn’t be from THC, but carbon dioxide.
- Marijuana and other drugs do not have any sort of legal control over how they are produced - because they are illegal - this means you do not know the conditions in which your weed was grown or what chemicals it has been treated with. People die from secondary complications with Weed - complications stemming from the pesticides that were used on the plant and were subsequently not cleaned away before use.
You realize these pesticides are on almost every other plant known to man unless you buy organic, right? (Look at the food list on the right. And that’s very incomplete, let me tell you.) And perhaps that’s a good reason to make it legal to begin with.
A lot of the reason why illicit drugs are said to ‘not kill people’ is precisely because they are illicit, and therefore are difficult to get statistics on. The ‘shadow statistics’ that have been obtained generally indicate that illicit drugs are much more dangerous than their legal counterparts. Due to the ungoverned nature of the illicit drug business (even though it is illegal, it is still a business) those who produce illicit drugs are allowed to cut corners, use poisons and have no production standards when creating their products. THIS MEANS THAT the products you are getting and smoking, (inhaling, swallowing) have no regulations on them whatsoever. The people who make these products are not concerned with keeping you alive. They are not concerned with making it safe. They are concerned with making as much money as possible off people who are desperate.
The majority of death from illicit drugs actually comes from secondary poisoning rather than actual drug use. You have no idea what is in the poison you are putting into your body.
So why are you putting it in there?
Again, you are grouping all illicit drugs together. News flash: they’re not all the same! I smoke weed. It was an educated decision for me to start, and it treats my insomnia and social anxiety wonderfully. It’s true! And clearly, I’m not dead! And I know I’m not addicted either. That does not mean I use harder drugs like ecstasy and cocaine. I know the facts; I know those are actually bad for you. Because I know that all drugs are different from each other! Imagine that!
Look, for your entire second paragraph here…
And get cracking, because a Google Scholar search for “illicit drugs secondary poisoning” yielded diddly squat of use.
Caffeine can kill. Caffeine is addictive, as well. I was addicted to caffeine at one point. The withdrawal was worse than when I forgot to take my medication for a few days.
